Vacation in Armenia with children: life hacks, sightseeing & entertainment
Sunny Armenia is happy to welcome guests of all ages. Here one will find sincere hospitality, bright emotions, interesting tours, as well as exciting entertainment. We will speak about what families with children can see in Yerevan and beyond, as well as how to get ready for the trip.

Getting ready for the trip

1. Documents
According to the current agreement between the Governments of the EU, the USA, countries applying the provisions of the Schengen Agreement, as well as the CIS countries and the Government of the Republic of Armenia, a visa-free regime is provided for citizens of the specified countries.
These citizens are allowed to stay in Armenia for up to 180 days within a year in case no other term is defined by the international agreements of the Republic of Armenia. The traveler has to present:

  • Valid passport: passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned departure date from Armenia;
  • Proof of sufficient funds: while not always required, it's advisable to have proof that you can financially support yourself during your stay (e.g., bank statements, credit cards);
  • Return or onward ticket: you may be asked to provide proof of your return or onward travel plans to another country after your stay in Armenia;
  • Travel insurance (recommended): although not a mandatory entry requirement, having travel insurance that covers health and emergencies during your stay in Armenia is highly recommended;
  • Visa (if applicable): while citizens of most European countries and the USA are visa-exempt, some nationalities may still require a visa. If you do need a visa, you can apply for it online via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia or obtain one upon arrival at the border.
  • Passport for children: each child, regardless of age, must have their own passport to enter Armenia. Children cannot be added to a parent's passport. The passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond the planned departure date from Armenia.

Parental Consent (for minors traveling alone or with one parent)

  • Traveling with one parent: if a child is traveling with only one parent, it is recommended (though not always required) to carry a signed consent letter from the non-traveling parent. This letter should indicate that the absent parent agrees to the child's travel to Armenia. Some airlines and border officials may request this document;
  • Traveling with someone other than parents: in case a child is traveling with someone who is not their parent or legal guardian, the accompanying adult should have written consent from both parents or legal guardians.

Proof of relationship (if applicable)

  • Traveling with children (if not the biological parent): in some cases, you might be asked to provide documents proving the relationship to the child, such as a birth certificate or adoption papers. This is especially important if the child is traveling with someone other than their biological parents.

Health and Safety

  • Travel insurance: it's recommended to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers health, accidents, and emergencies for children during the trip.

It's always a good idea to double-check the latest entry requirements with the Armenian embassy or consulate before traveling, as rules may change.

2. Money

Armenia uses its own currency – Armenian drams (AMD). As of March 25, 2025, 100 Armenian drams cost 0.26 USD/ 0.24 EUR, 1000 Armenian drams – 2.6 USD / 2.4 EUR.
International bank cards such as Visa, MasterCard and American Express are widely accepted in Armenia.
One can use them for payments in supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, stores, and many service points across the country. Additionally, there are numerous currency exchange points throughout Yerevan, making it easy to exchange cash when needed. 3. Transport
Since 2025, a unified ticket system for public transport has been in effect in Armenia. The same tickets and tariffs are used to pay for travel on the metro, bus or trolleybus:
  • A single travel pass costs 150 AMD;
  • A 3-hour travel pass costs 300 AMD (up to 3 trips);
  • A 24-hour travel pass costs 900 AMD;
  • A weekly travel pass costs 5000 AMD;
  • An unlimited monthly travel pass costs 9000 AMD.

Children under 7 years old have the right to free travel on all public transport.

You can find all the details on the following website https://transport.yerevan.am/.

Taxis are well used in Armenia. There operate "GG", "Yandex Taxi", etc. in the country, and payments are made in cash or else via linked international Visa and Master cards. The fare depends on the service, time of order, as well as other factors. From Zvartnots International Airport to Yerevan one can get for around 3000-5000 AMD.

4. Souvenirs

From Armenia, tourists bring fresh fruits, dried fruits, nuts, national sweets, cheeses, spices, cosmetics, ceramics, wooden souvenirs and much more. It is best to buy locally produced gifts at the market. One of the largest in Yerevan is "Vernissage", here one will find everything needed and feel the local flavor.

5. Lifehacks

  1. If you arrived on an early flight, do not rush to order a taxi from the airport. Minibuses and buses start running here at 6 am, and are much cheaper.
  2. The water that flows from special fountains (pulpulaks) in Yerevan is drinkable. You can not only quench your thirst, but also fill a bottle with it.
  3. To use inexpensive communications and the Internet, buy a local SIM card, the cost starts from 3500 AMD. "Viva" and "Team Telecom" provide their services in Armenia.
  4. If you want to enjoy fresh juicy fruits, do not buy them in supermarkets, but choose them in markets or from street vendors.
  5. If you forgot to bring any medicines, no problem. You will find the usual medicines in pharmacies in Armenia.
  6. Armenia is a country with rich history and culture. To get to know it better, observe the sights within tours. The tour guide will tell you a lot of interesting info and also recommend you the best places of pastime in Armenia with kids.
