280 kilometers north of Yerevan stretches Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia – a city where the past and the present beat in the same vibrant rhythm. At its heart runs the Kura River, an artery that unites centuries, mirroring in its waters church domes, bridges and the sparkling lights of the metropolis. In its narrow alleys whispers of history can still be heard, while the wide avenues breathe with the pulse of a modern city.

Tbilisi keeps treasures of time: old quarters, majestic cathedrals and half-ruined fortresses, where centuries seem to pause, standing beside shining business centers and bold contemporary architecture. The Narikala district, with its winding medieval streets leading to the ancient fortress overlooking the city, adds a special charm. Meanwhile, Rustaveli Avenue astonishes with its grandeur – a cultural stage lined with theaters, museums and palaces, embodying Georgia's artistic spirit.

The city is a living contrast: ornate balconies and courtyards of the past neighbor with Soviet-era monuments and glass-and-steel towers of today. From the cable car, Tbilisi unfolds like an open palm – a breathtaking panorama where history and modernity merge into one harmonious pattern.

Tbilisi is more than a capital; it is the soul of Georgia, a city where everyone discovers a reflection of their own story and carries away its living breath.

On the gentle slopes of Kakheti's hills, where the sun generously bathes the vineyards and the Alazani Valley stretches in soft blue haze to the horizon, lies the small yet irresistibly charming town of Sighnaghi. Founded in the 17th century under King Erekle II, it remains the only town in Georgia to have preserved its ancient fortress walls – stone sentinels that still encircle it in a protective embrace. Its name comes from the Turkic "signakh", meaning "shelter" and indeed, this place feels as though it was created to guard peace and stillness.

Yet Sighnaghi's fame reaches beyond its architecture and history. Local legend tells of the great Georgian painter Niko Pirosmani, who, in a grand gesture of love for the beautiful French actress Marguerite de Sèvre, covered the town square with a sea of fresh flowers. This act inspired the beloved song "A Million Scarlet Roses", forever tying the town's name to the world's great love stories.

Today, visitors wander through leafy streets and take in majestic views of the mountains, or exchange vows at the legendary Wedding Palace, open around the clock. No wonder it's called the "City of Love" – the very air here seems filled with the promise of tenderness and miracles.

2. Bodbe Monastery

Just two kilometers from Sighnaghi, amid the gentle curves of Kakheti's hills and the silver shimmer of olive trees, rises an ancient sanctuary – the Bodbe Monastery. In the quiet of its gardens, beneath the prayerful shade of centuries-old cypresses, rest the relics of Saint Nino – the great enlightener of Georgia, who came in the 4th century with a cross made of vine branches to bring the light of Christianity to this land.

Legend says that her words, filled with humility and love, touched hearts more deeply than any weapon and the faith she brought took root here forever. In the 9th-11th centuries, a church was built on the site of her burial, now lost to time, but in its sacred place stands today a majestic three-nave cathedral dedicated to Saint George. Its stones, like ancient chroniclers, remember both the tears of prayer and the joy of pilgrims who have come here for centuries.

The peal of its bells, mingling with the rustle of leaves and the song of birds, carries over the vineyards and distant mountains, calling to spiritual renewal. Even today, the monastery remains the heart of the Sighnaghi diocese and a place where the earthly and the divine meet in quiet blessing. Here, every step is a touch of legend and every breath is filled with the fragrance of history and faith.
