Zarni-Parni is one of the most picturesque cave-castle complexes of the Lori region, hidden deep in a forested canyon with breathtaking views of the mighty Kayan Fortress. Located near the village of Haghpat, famous worldwide for its namesake monastery, the site seems to continue the ancient story of these lands.
The complex includes the castles "Zarni er" and "Parni er", as well as the legendary cave "Tsak er". According to historical accounts, this was once the home and place of study of the renowned Armenian philosopher and scholar Hovhannes Imastaser, whose work left an indelible mark on the nation's spiritual culture. Today, Zarni-Parni has become an open-air museum, displaying old farming tools and household items that tell the story of ancestral life. The atmosphere blends the austere beauty of stone with the gentle breath of the surrounding forest, creating a sense of traveling through time.
Next to the cave, visitors will find a cozy tavern and winery offering traditional Armenian dishes and local drinks. Zarni-Parni is more than a historic monument; it is a place where legends come alive and nature and culture intertwine in a single breath.
Evening time can be well "spiced" with a splendid view from the observation deck over a bonfire (at an additional cost of 26.97 USD).
