Komitas – a name that has become the very symbol of Armenian music and its immortal spirit. A monk and vardapet (archimandrite), he elevated folk songs to the level of high art, revealing to the world the richness of the Armenian soul. For him, music was not just creativity, but a sanctuary where joy, sorrow and the beauty of life found expression. In his works, Komitas gathered the colors of the real world and transformed them into sound that still touches hearts today. He entered history as a world-renowned musicologist, who studied and preserved hundreds of folk and sacred melodies – many of which might have been lost without his devotion.
To honor the breadth of his life and legacy, the Komitas Museum-Institute was opened on January 29, 2015, in Yerevan, within the park that bears his name. Here manuscripts, documents, personal belongings and musical archives reveal the genius not only as a composer, but also as a human being.
The exhibitions allow visitors to hear the music of his heart, to grasp the scale of his contribution and to feel the delicate bond he forged between a people and its song. Visiting this museum is not merely an encounter with a great master, but a meeting with the living soul of Armenian culture.
