In Abovyan rises the majestic St. Hovhannes Mkrtich (St. John the Baptist) Cathedral – a true symbol of Armenia's spiritual revival. Its story began on August 24, 2006, with the laying of the first stone and reached its culmination on May 14, 2013, when the church was solemnly consecrated. The project came to life thanks to the patronage of philanthropist Gagik Tsarukyan, whose support turned an ambitious vision into reality.
The cathedral captivates with its harmony of grandeur and elegance. Its dome, soaring 50 meters high, seems to bridge earth and sky, embodying mankind's eternal longing for the Divine. About forty sculptors and jewelers contributed their craftsmanship and soul, giving the church its regal appearance, where every detail breathes symbolism and inspiration.
Today, the St. Hovhannes Mkrtich Cathedral is more than a place of prayer – it is the spiritual heart of the region. Its shining dome, visible from afar, stands as a guiding star, reminding all of the eternal truths of faith and the enduring strength of the Armenian people.
