In the history of Soviet Armenia, the name of the Mikoyan brothers holds a special place: Artem – the creative genius of aviation engineering, co-designer of the legendary "MiG" fighter jets and Anastas – one of the longest-serving members of the Politburo, a statesman who shaped the major political processes of his time.
Their native village of Sanahin has become the site where the memory of these two remarkable figures is honored in a memorial museum. The exhibitions trace their lives through documents, photographs, personal belongings and rare artifacts, each revealing different facets of their destinies.
Among the highlights stands an outdoor exhibit – a full-size "MiG-21", displayed under a vast canopy, as if poised to take flight into the sky. This symbol of human genius and technological progress recalls Artem Mikoyan's outstanding contribution to global aviation. At the same time, the museum narrates the political path of Anastas Mikoyan, whose career was closely interwoven with the key events of the 20th century.
The atmosphere of the memorial unites two distinct yet equally significant paths – that of the engineer and innovator and that of the statesman. Visiting the Sanahin museum becomes a journey into history, where science, technology and politics merge in the legacy of one family.
